An online home for The Yorkshire Shepherdess
“Absolutely delighted with my new website. Nothing is too much trouble for Rob, he has provided me with a visually stunning website and consequently I have had more enquiries, new customers, and many compliments along the way.
“I would absolutely recommend using Rob as he guided me through what I felt (as a technophobe) was a daunting undertaking and made the whole process simple....or should I say eeze?!”

Amanda Owen – The Yorkshire Shepherdess

The Client

Best-selling author, sheep farmer, photographer, public speaker, and mother of 9, Amanda Owen is better known as The Yorkshire Shepherdess. Amanda first came to fame after her family were featured in the popular ITV series The Dales – before releasing her two bestselling books, The Yorkshire Shepherdess and A Year in The Life of The Yorkshire Shepherdess.

Amanda lives up at Ravenseat, a remote hill farm near Swaledale - where it’seeze Web Design Scarborough web consultant Rob Davies first met her when staying in the traditional shepherd’s hut there. After striking up a conversation about his work, Amanda mentioned she was looking for her outdated website to be re-designed.

Amanda had been thinking about doing this for some time, but a hectic schedule of media work, sheep farming, writing, and looking after 9 children had left her with little time for anything else! Her existing website was fairly basic, with pages promoting her shepherd’s hut and holiday lets business, but nothing devoted to The Yorkshire Shepherdess.

The Site

With 40,000 Twitter followers, Amanda wanted a central online home where people could come to find out about her life and work. Her second book had just become a bestseller, and Amanda was in demand. She needed a dedicated space devoted to her story, writing, photography, public speaking, and holiday accommodation businesses.

The design needed to reflect the rural appeal and rugged nature of Amanda and her husband Clive’s hill farm, and the unique life they’ve built there.

Most importantly, Amanda needed someone she could rely on to handle everything, and push the project through. As a self-confessed technophobe with so much going on, she simply couldn’t devote enough time to manage the process.

The Build

From the start, we knew that bringing the site together would be a challenge, and in the end, it took almost 12 months to complete.

Between Amanda’s busy life, the poor internet and communications in Upper Swaledale, inclement weather and the daily stresses and strains of hill farming – gathering the information needed to pull the site together and bring it to life was a team effort.

Rob worked tirelessly, managing the entire process on Amanda’s behalf, drawing on input from the it’seeze design team and freelance copywriting support in order to provide a complete service, from design right through to writing the content!

Another challenge was the selection of photos used to create the website – Amanda literally has thousands to choose from!

The Results

The website launched in the spring of 2018, and Amanda loves the finished site.

In addition to providing biographical information, it offers visitors a full overview of everything she does – promoting The Yorkshire Shepherdess brand, her books, photography, and the numerous events which she attends as guest speaker. It also provides full information on her growing holiday accommodation business.
